WWF organization at the PETRALANY factory

PETRALANA is the only company in Europe that uses coke oven gas to produce mineral stone wool. Thanks to this, it reduces carbon dioxide emissions by approx. 20%. compared to traditional solutions. Among others Radosław Tumielewicz, President of the Management Board of Petralana SA, talked about this today in front of the WWF camera.

For over 55 years, the mission of the international organization WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) has been to work for a future in which man lives in harmony with nature.

The context in which the recording made in PETRALAN was created is decarbonization, i.e. moving away from coal. This is a topic of particular importance to the inhabitants of Bytom, where the factory operates, and which will host the Third Forum of Mayors for Just Transition in September.

The initiative which is the Forum of Mayors was created as part of the Regions Beyond Coal project, implemented, among others, by by WWF Poland. The inauguration of the Forum took place in 2018 in Kozani – in Western Macedonia, a region of Greece. The second edition took place a year later, in the German town of Weisswasser – a lignite mining region. Now it’s time for a Polish city associated with coal mining, i.e. Bytom. All these cities have in common the location of mines in their regions (currently or in the past) and the need to bear the economic, social and environmental consequences resulting from this activity.
