Śląski Holding Przemysłowy financially supported the publication of a book for children, which tells in a simple way about work in a coal processing plant. „My Mom Works in a Mine” by Małgorzata Król translates in children’s language e.g. where did the underground coal deposits come from, why did St. Barbara is the patron saint of miners and what is the difference between a nut and a pea.
This is the second item in the series „My mother works in…” by Małgorzata Król. The first was devoted to work on the railway.
“It was my granddaughters who inspired me to write my first book. They asked specific questions, which I did not want to answer in a simplified way, in which railways are often shown in animations for children. I was interested in educational value. I wanted the book to show what the places we talked about really look like, recalls the author. The idea to continue the series came just as naturally: – Mining is closely related to rail transport, so when my granddaughters started asking about coal, I started writing again.
The high editorial standard was ensured by a group of people gathered around the publisher – the Municipal Cultural Center in Gorzyce. The illustrations and typesetting of the book were made by Katarzyna Paleczna, a native of Rybnik, and the author of the photos is Paweł Bień.
The book at the price of PLN 25 can be purchased at the GCK in Gorzyce at ul. Mikołaja Kopernika 8 and in Rybnik, in the Orbita bookstore at Rynek 12. The circulation is only half a thousand copies. The partners of the edition are the following companies: Śląski Holding Przemysłowy, Petralana, MMG, Polska Grupa Górnicza and Imex Piechota.
